Write to hello@commalabs.co and a person will answer. Most questions are one of the ones below.
The question never appears
Three things stop it, in order of likelihood.
- Screen Time access is off. Open why? and look at the line under the title. If it says access is off, tap "Choose apps" and allow it when iOS asks. If you refused earlier, iOS will not ask again: turn it on in Settings, Screen Time.
- why? is paused. The Pause control sits on the right of the Apps panel. When it is paused, every app reads "Available".
- A window is still open. Answering opens an app for fifteen minutes. During that time it will not ask again, and the row shows the minutes left.
It asks about the wrong apps, or none
Tap "Choose which apps" in the Apps panel to change the selection. Choosing a whole category does nothing: a category shield reports the category rather than the app, so a single app could not be let back in. Pick individual apps.
I changed the purposes and the old ones still show
Update to the latest version. Earlier builds wrote the new wording but iOS kept showing the shield it had already built.
Why fifteen minutes and not five
Fifteen minutes is the shortest interval Apple's DeviceActivity framework will accept. Anything shorter is refused by the system, so no app can offer it.
Purchases
- Restore. Open Pro from the top right and tap Restore. Purchases are attached to your Apple Account, so signing in with the same account on a new phone is all that is needed.
- Cancel a subscription. Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- Refunds. Apple handles these. Use reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
My data
There is none to request. why? has no account and no server, and everything it records stays on your device. Deleting the app removes all of it. The privacy policy explains exactly what is stored and where.
Requirements
iOS 18 or later. Showing all three purposes together needs iOS 26.4 or later; on earlier versions the question still appears with one purpose and a way back. Screen Time authorization requires an adult Apple Account, so managed and child accounts cannot use it.
Still stuck? hello@commalabs.co. Tell us your iOS version and what you were doing when it went wrong, and we will get back to you.
