Terms of Use
These terms govern your use of the why? application ("App"), made by Comma Labs Yazılım Anonim Şirketi ("Comma Labs," "we," "us," "our"). By downloading or using the App you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. What why? Is
why? asks one question before you open an app you have chosen, and asks you to pick a purpose. Choosing one lifts the question for fifteen minutes; when that window ends, the question returns, including while you are still inside the app.
The App uses Apple's Screen Time shield to place that question in front of a selected app, which is the same mechanism content blockers use. The difference is what it does with it: the App never refuses access. Every app you select remains reachable at all times by answering the question, the App can be paused at any moment, and removing it removes every restriction it applied.
2. Not Medical or Psychological Advice
The App is a tool for noticing your own behaviour. It is not a medical device, is not clinically validated, and is not offered as diagnosis or treatment for compulsive use, addiction, attention disorders or any other condition.
Nothing in the App constitutes medical, psychological or professional advice. If your phone use is causing you distress, please speak to a qualified professional.
3. Requirements and Screen Time Authorization
The App requires iOS 18 or later. Showing all three purposes together on the question screen requires iOS 26.4 or later; on earlier versions the question is still asked but offers a single purpose alongside the option to go back.
The App cannot function without Apple's Screen Time (Family Controls) authorization, which you grant explicitly on first setup and can withdraw at any time in Settings › Screen Time. Apple requires an adult Apple Account to grant it; managed and child accounts cannot.
Fifteen minutes is the shortest access window Apple's DeviceActivity framework accepts. We cannot offer a shorter one.
4. Free and Pro
The free version asks about up to two apps. Everything else is included at no cost: writing your own purposes for each app, today's figures, and the last seven days.
why? Pro removes the two-app limit. Features included in Pro may change over time; we will not remove a feature you have already paid for under a lifetime purchase.
5. Subscriptions and Payments
All purchases are processed by Apple through In-App Purchase. We do not process payments and never see your payment details.
- Monthly and Yearly are auto-renewing subscriptions. They renew automatically at the end of each period unless cancelled at least 24 hours beforehand, and are charged to your Apple Account.
- Yearly begins with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers. Nothing is charged during the trial. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, it converts to a paid yearly subscription at the price shown. The trial is available once per Apple Account, and starting a new subscription after a previous one does not restart it.
- Lifetime is a one-time purchase that does not renew.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription at any time in Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
- Prices are shown in the App before purchase and may vary by region and over time. Existing subscribers are notified by Apple before any price increase takes effect.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's refund policy. We cannot issue refunds directly; requests must be made to Apple.
Entitlements are attached to your Apple Account, not to an account with us, and can be restored on another device by signing in with the same Apple Account and using "Restore" in the App.
6. Licence and Acceptable Use
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on devices you own or control, in accordance with Apple's Standard End User License Agreement, which these terms supplement.
You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, redistribute, rent, resell or sublicense the App, nor attempt to circumvent Apple's Screen Time protections through it.
7. Intellectual Property
The App, its name, wordmark, interface, copy and design are owned by Comma Labs and protected by intellectual property law. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership to you.
The purposes you write remain yours. They are stored on your device and we never receive them.
8. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the App will change any habit, reduce your usage, or prevent you from opening anything. Its behaviour depends on Apple's Screen Time systems, and delays, interruptions or missed interventions caused by iOS are outside our control.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Comma Labs is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the App. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the App in the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your statutory consumer rights.
9. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or terminate the licence if these terms are breached. Termination does not entitle you to a refund except as required by Apple's policy or applicable law.
10. Apple's Role
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for the App. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, and the courts and enforcement offices of Ankara have jurisdiction, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rights in your country of residence.
12. Changes
If these terms change, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the revised terms.
